Recent revelations have confirmed our worst fears: Lambeth knew about 92 severe, risk-to-life hazards across our estate a year ago and did not let residents know. How did we uncover this alarming information?
It all started when we formally requested access to the comprehensive Savills Stock Condition data the council holds, seeking a detailed breakdown of all identified housing safety hazards. The initial response we received from Lambeth’s new Cabinet lead for Housing, Cllr. Danny Adilypour was far from satisfactory, leaving many of our questions unanswered. However, persistence paid off. Danny eventually provided us with a snapshot of the Savills data, which proved to be incredibly enlightening.
The Stock Condition Survey identified 92 severe risk-to-life hazards across the estate, four of which still require work over a year after Lambeth was informed of these hazards. He also disclosed that there were almost 500 moderate hazards, although no details on any of these have been provided, nor has a summary of the works completed to address the hazards deemed to have been resolved.
Danny's shift from claiming everything is under control to admitting there are hundreds of unresolved risks on our estate that the council know about, including a handful of risk to life hazards or our estate which have remained unresolved for over a year after being identified by the council, is alarming and confirms our concerns.
Why do you think the council won’t release the Savills data and commit to sharing, developing, and implementing a plan of action with accountability to residents to ensure we all live in safe and decent homes?
Regardless of the reason, whether it’s due to council funding constraints or other issues, it is unacceptable for us to live in such appalling conditions with our families, children, and neighbours' wellbeing severely affected.
One thing is certain: Danny, as Lambeth's current Cabinet Lead for Housing, is ultimately responsible for our living conditions. We won't stop until he provides us with a clear plan with accountability to address the issues on our estate that ensure safe and decent homes for all residents on Tulse Hill Estate.
