April 2024
Our focus is crystal clear: Safe and decent homes and a landlord who collaborates rather than assigns blame. Is Lambeth up for the challenge?
Like many in our group, hundreds of our neighbours have grappled with persistent damp and mould issues for years, problems we firmly believe stem, at least in part, from structural deficiencies within the estate.
We are convinced that an independent environmental inspection holds the key to revealing the truth. Despite our repeated requests, Lambeth has refused to release the Savills stock condition survey conducted last year, which they claim to be an independent environmental inspection.
After three months of unwavering determination and persistent door-knocking, we have collected 168 signatures from our neighbours for our petition! That's more than one in five residents of the vast Tulse Hill Estate!
However, what's even more significant than the sheer number of signatures is the conversations we've engaged in. Through listening to our neighbours, we've gained a clearer understanding of the extensive nature of the necessary work. Individually, we've been brushed off for far too long. Enough is enough.
Our petition urges Maria Kay, Lambeth Councils cabinet member for Housing and Homelessness, to:
Commission an independent environmental inspection of the Tulse Hill Estate blocks to identify structural issues.
Develop an estate improvement plan based on the findings of the inspection to rectify the identified structural issues.
Appoint a single point of contact for residents, someone of sufficient seniority to be both responsible and accountable to residents for the plan's implementation.
Our demands are straightforward: commission the inspection, collaborate with us on developing a plan based on its findings, and ensure its execution with accountability to us.
We will keep you updated on the response to the petition. Whatever the result, we will fight for change.
All for one and one for all!
