February 2024
Since January, we've been knocking on doors across the Tulse Hill Estate to listen to our neighbours about their issues, find out how the group can support them, and get their name down on our petition to Lambeth Council.
The issues that have come up on the doors have been notable for how much they share in common, including:
leaks from the roof that affect residents from the top to the bottom floor;
longstanding damp and mould that, after sometimes years of complaining, is given superficial treatments;
damp that is dealt with using thermal plasterboard, which only forces the mould to grow behind, and eventually around, the board;
three members of THEU have been forced to turn their living room into a bedroom, or share bedrooms with their children, due to some bedrooms being damp and unsafe for children. Sometimes they were told by Council officers to do this, something we doubt they would expect of their own families. We've found these experiences to be far from isolated.
We've had enough. We will let the Council know that we won't be left in rotting homes without a fight.
